Great Fancy Cancels
Guy friend asked me to dinner, but?

I don't want to go to dinner with him. He's a great friend and fun to hang out with, but he wants me to go to dinner with him at a really fancy restaurant for my birthday. Thing is, I have a boyfriend, whom I love very much, and find it inappropriate to go to fancy dinners, one on one, with male friends. My guy friend is aware that I have a boyfriend, and that I love my boyfriend very much. The problem here is that, he manipulated me to go to dinner with him. He made reservations at this five star restaurant, without me even saying I would go, and if he cancels the reservations, he gets charged a large cancellation fee. So what am I supposed to do? Go to dinner with this guy friend, when I don't want to go? Or have him cancel the reservations and have him waste his money on the cancellation fee?

First of all, you are innocent, you did nothing wrong whatsoever. Your guy friend was nice to think of you, but he was also very wrong for manipulating you, and doing all this without asking you, especially since you have a boyfriend. Speak to your boyfriend first and foremost, make it clear that you had no idea on this. You should not be guilted into going if you really don't want to, especially since this was done without your consent. I am not making a decision for you, but speak to your friend, and your guy friend about all this, including how it's all made you feel. Hopefully then, you can reach a decision. If you DO end up going to the dinner, it's not like you'll be unfaithful. You just said yourself how much you love your boyfriend. If your boyfriend is an understanding person, I'm sure he'll help you make the right choice.
