I wrote a friend in prison...I may have made a mistake with what was in the letter!?
I was writing my friend in prison that mentioned about his cousin that died. It was a small town with tons on rumors and I said in my letter that I heard his cousin died but all the rumors in the town are anywhere from a simple motorcycle accident to a murder for hire hit with the russian mafia...That actually was a rumor going around as this guy had just married the daughter of some political figure from there. I haven't received a response from him in 2 weeks! Now I'm wondering if they may have held the letter as suspicious! It was just a silly rumor could either of us get into trouble? He is in a minimum security prison in Kansas on his letters they are stamped this is uncensored correspondence from a correctional facility...so since it says his are uncensored does that me mine will be unread?
First off unless a prisoner is on some sort of watch, the prisoner's outgoing mail is not read, BUT incoming mail is all opened before given to prisoners and may or may not be read. They open all incoming mail to make sure there isn't anything in there that shouldn't be....drugs, money, anything that could be a weapon, porn.... So if there is some conspiracy going on, it is possible that he didn't get your letter.
In your letter to your friend did you happened to mention to him that you were hearing RUMORS and you wen't sure, or simply that you heard his cousin died? If you just said you heard his cousin died he could have become really upset and ended up in the medical ward or freaked out and ended up in solitary.
So you can call the prison and see if they will give you any information or simply write him another letter, one you don't think will be deemed suspicious just to be safe.
