Old Time Stationery

How to make a child positive?
My 8 year old boy, is very pessimistic about almost everything around him. He feels his friends at school dont like him, he feels his teachers dont like him, he doesnot like to play outside fearing his friends bully him.
Although, he consistently gets good grades in school, he is a very kind hearted boy, always helps out his brothers and friends in class. He likes new stuff, he likes food, he is always on the look-out to buy new stationery, clothes and stuff.
I spend a lot of time with him, telling him he is important and not to worry about what people tell him, I try to make him feel good. What more can I do to make him think positively and encourage him to play and mingle with friends, and be a normal kid.
As we get older, we realize that we can't make everyone like us.
And we can't please everyone.
And we can't like everyone ourselves.
Explain to your son, that he himself won't like everyone, and that the ones that are not playing with him right now, may not be the future friends that he wants to be with. But, the only way to find out, is to talk to them.
How to get him to make friends, is for him to keep his ears open....ask him to listen to what they are saying...and when he hears something that he is interested in, or knows something about, tell him that is when he should get in on the conversation with them, and share what he knows.
Tell, him that is how all friends start off. Tell him that just a few words gets him into a circle.
But, most importantly, explain, that even though he see's other kids around talking with other kids, that those same kids, still wonder if they will be excepted with the kids they now play with.
Explain that it is normal to think that way, as there are many adults that still think that way as well. Tell him it is normal, for kids and adults. He apparently, like all other kids and adults feel that they are the only ones, that they are different.
Best of luck. I am sure this will work for him.
