Poland Revolution Solidarnosc
Why are western-style socialist and conservative parties not more popular in the former East Bloc nations?
Western-style socialist parties and conservative parties do not win most of the elections in the former East Bloc nations.
Many of these nations have elected left-socialists or neo-communists to high office.
In Poland, pro-capitalist Solidarnosc, which led the counter-revolution in the 1980s, was so unpopular after a few years in office that they dissolved themselves, and the party doesn't even exist any more.
Russian president Putin is by NO means a communist, but he pushes a lot of the same emotional buttons. And he is the most popular president Russia has had in many years.
Why do people vote for left socialists and communists in countries that have had both pro-capitalist and pro-communist governments?
If communism is so bad, shouldn't the people who had experience with it be voting for western-style socialists and conservatives?
Could it be that when someone has EXPERIENCE with both pro-capitalist and pro-communist governments, they tend to prefer communists?
The people of Eastern Europe wish to try something else besides Socialism this time of around. There are still many hardcore supporters, but it's simply a matter of trying something else.
It depends on how Communism or Capitalism affect a person. I live under a Capitalist system and I am a Communist simply because I want to see if this system shall work better for me.
