Which stamps are worth more used or unused?
I want to start collecting and wonder if i should try to get unused ones or used ones or both! 
Unused, unhinged, with original gum on the back are the highest catalog value - sometimes ten time more.
used are called "cancels" and are worth (by catalog value) less, but some collectors prefer them (I do - because they've actually been used and have a history).
Some people collect stamps for the "Franking" (the postmarks). and actually have PAGES of the same stamp and all the different places that that same kind of stamp has been.
Some stamps are just worth a lot period - the U.S. Zeppelin issues are worth thousands. The Great Britain "Black Penny" is worth up to hundreds and sometimes thousands if dollars even though there are a million of them out there.
For instance, I have a stamp from 1879 from the Vatican - I often wonder if the pope licked it --- but who knows?

Stamps are picking up in value -- used and mint... ever since the stock market crashed, people are looking for other places to invest, and stamps are kinda cool -- they're not making any more of the ole "lick and seal" types - all pregummed now.

Your first poster has a good point- many African coutries have stamps that are just printed in order to get money from collectors.. Rwanda is famous for that.
But there still are stamts that are very expensive...and eBay prices have picked up over the past year.
